I've lived in the same dorm for all four years here at college for a number of reasons. Although I definitely don't regret it at all, it has left me with a need for some experience with apartment hunting. Here are some things I've learned:
- Having enough space -> higher rent
- Signing convenient length leases -> higher rent
- Moving in when is best for you -> higher rent
- On Craigslist, 420 = cannabis
I'll make another post when I make some more progress. If you have any tips in the meantime, please share!
I will say... not having a dishwasher sucks. If possible, look for an apartment that includes a dishwasher, washer, and dryer.
ReplyDeleteHum roomates! it's not that easy to find somebody you can get along with, so try to make a good choice.
ReplyDeleteGood luck Bran...!
If you do the craigslist thing, id suggest a month tomonth arrangeent. Living in a weird place for a month while you drive around town looking for a better place isn't so bad, but living in one for a year because you signea lease without meeting someone is. One of my friends planed to stay in a hotel for the first few days he moved somewhere, and spent all of that time following up on craigslist adds until he found a good one. Meeting them first is a big win. Also might be worthpaying higher rent for a one bed for a year until you are settled, then trying for a more economical place with roommates.after you had a chance to meet people. Good luck!
ReplyDeleteWatch house hunters! (obviously it's about findings houses/condos/apts)
ReplyDeleteI love that show!!
I would try to find some connections through an IV chapter or church down there. I bet you could find a family willing to let you stay with them for a couple weeks until you find a place, or someone may know of somebody else who needs a roommate. I'm guessing you'll have a better chance of not winding up with a pyschopathic roomie that way.

LOL WEED
ReplyDeleteI agree with the post above. Find a temporary living solution and then find a more permanent solution after getting plugged in with a church. I can tell you from experience that living with non-Christian roommates is a challenge.

Thanks guys for all the feedback, I appreciate it!
ReplyDeleteWhat level-1 skills did you choose after completing the "Find a Job" quest? Did it have a cool cut-scene at the beginning?
ReplyDeleteSeriously? your company has offered NO assistance? Do they not offer to set you up with someone else joining the company, or even suggested areas to go and look? Sounds like a second class company if you ask me. :)
ReplyDeletei found my current apt. on craigslist and it's great. Do take a few solid days and look through a lot of them. it all is Location v Price v size v ... But one of the musts is to have a face to face ( skype..phone...) interview with them. Ask questions like
*What is an average weekend for you
*Age
*relationship status
*educational/ business background
*average work day timing ( wake up, go to bed)
*Ask how bills are covered, does one person cover *TV/internet/Water/electricity...etc ( do they have a job to be able to pay for it)
*Neatness, do they do dishes?
*does roommate have to be M/F?
*Dishes? Cooking pans? ( what is supplied vs what do you need to bring)
to the Renting company:
*Security Deposit?
*Day rent is Due.
*First __ months rent due at signing?
My guess, is that Money will not be an issue for you.
They gave me a relocation contact as well as providing relocation reimbursement. I've been doing some searching myself first, just to get my hands dirty. Don't worry Paul, they're taking care of me!
ReplyDeleteI don't even think I'm going to use Craigslist, now that I think about it.
I hope it goes great!! :D :D I miss you :)
